SANDWICH, MASSACHUSETTS – A local man, John Catalano, was arrested on August 25, 2025, after a bold daytime theft spree targeting work vans in Sandwich, according to the Sandwich Police Department. Catalano faces multiple charges, including Breaking and Entering Daytime into a Motor Vehicle for a Felony, Larceny over $1,200, and Larceny under $1,200, following the theft of over $2,500 worth of tools and vehicle keys from separate locations.
The crime unfolded when police received a call reporting stolen tools from a construction van. While officers were en route, a second call reported stolen keys from a work van at a different location. Armed with descriptions of the suspect and his vehicle, officers swiftly launched an investigation. Their efforts led them to Catalano, who allegedly broke into a construction vehicle to steal a large quantity of tools before moving to another parking lot, where he took keys from a vehicle’s door and fled.
Police located Catalano shortly after and arrested him. Following the issuance of a search warrant, detectives searched Catalano’s vehicle and recovered all the stolen tools, which were promptly returned to their rightful owner, according to the SPD statement. The quick response and thorough investigation by the Sandwich Police Department ensured the recovery of the stolen property and the apprehension of the suspect.
Catalano was arraigned at Barnstable District Court and released pending further legal proceedings.
