Seat Belts Save Lives: Unbelted Passenger Transported to Hospital after Rollover in W. Barnstable [HN Photos]

WEST BARNSTABLE, MASSACHUSETTS — A dramatic rollover crash on Route 6 westbound underscored the life-saving power of seat belts, with one unbuckled passenger rushed to the hospital while others walked away unscathed, according to radio transmissions.
Emergency responders, including state troopers and West Barnstable firefighters, arrived at the scene just before the Route 149 exit to find a sedan overturned in the median. Three people had been inside the vehicle. The crash happened at around 11:15 p.m. last evening.
Upon evaluation, the passenger not wearing a seat belt sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was promptly transported to Cape Cod Hospital for care. In stark contrast, the two belted passengers were mobile at the scene and needed no additional medical treatment after being given the once over by rescue.
The crash temporarily narrowed the highway to a single lane as crews cleared the area. Buckler’s Towing removed the wrecked vehicle, and Massachusetts Department of Transportation (Mass DOT) resources addressed any snow or ice left over on the roadway.
The Massachusetts State Police is investigating the circumstances leading to the rollover.
