UPDATE FROM THE BOURNE FD: Firefighters were called out to 1 Sandwich rd this evening, a Multi unit apartment building tonight around 8pm for a smell of smoke in the building. Upon Location Engine 121 and Car 143 found heavy smoke and fire coming from floors 1 and 2 and received reports from Bystanders and BPD Officers of people trapped on the 2nd Floor. A 2nd alarm assignment was initiated immediately. Crews found 2 occupants trapped on 2nd floor hanging out of 2 different windows. E121 and E122 crews positioned ground ladders and Bourne Firefighters effectively rescued 2 occupants from the 2nd floor over ladders. The Fire then grew to 3 alarms and was [under] control a few hours later. A total of 10 Fire Departments assisted BFD throughout the night and crews still remain on scene.
UPDATE FROM THE BOURNE PD: STRUCTURE FIRE
BOURNE, MA, 05/28/2019: At approximately 2012 hours, Bourne Police responded to a multi-family residence on Sandwich Rd for a report of a possible structure fire. Initial responding officers entered the building and assisted some of the occupants in evacuation, before encountering heavy smoke. Bourne Fire Department arrived and took over operations. Two Bourne Police officers were evaluated at the scene for smoke inhalation. One building occupant was transported to an area hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.
