VIDEO: Car on its side… woman trapped…
HYANNIS – At about 4:45PM, police and firefighters rushed to help a woman trapped inside of a vehicle which had just rolled onto its side after colliding with another vehicle at the intersection of Phinneys Lane and Old Strawberry Hill Road.
According to radio transmissions, the trapped female driver was able to initially speak with police dispatch over her cell phone. The first police officer at the scene observed she may have had injuries to her arm (and possibly other injuries) and she would need to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters.
Hyannis Firefighters used a special saw to cut through the windshield while securing the vehicle with straps and supports, which prevented it from rolling onto rescuers. They then used the jaws of life and other tools to remove the roof from the vehicle.
Multiple firefighters carefully removed the female and secured her onto a stretcher. She then was placed in an ambulance and transported to CCH.
According to Hyannis FD, both female drivers were transported to CCH in stable condition with injuries that were described as not being life threatening.

Raffle Winner! Plus Hyannis Firefighters raise $20,000 to help keep kids warm…

The above photos shows Hyannis Firefighters posing with the winner of the 50/50 raffle. The drawing took place at an Operation Warm fundraiser and party where firefighters took in about $31,000 for the cause.
A check for $10,000 went to raffle winner Marie Lowman, a Patient Care Tech at the Cape Artificial Kidney Center. She told HN her daughter is getting married this coming Friday, so the surprise winnings will come in handy.
The remaining twenty thousand dollars will go to buying about 600 winter coats for the children of Hyannis. About 250 of the coats will be given out to students at Hyannis West Elementary School.
Firefighters exceeded their initial goal, so the remaining coats will be going to other HyTown elementary school students. Click here to learn more about Operation Warm in an earlier HN article.
The following photos were taken when HN stopped by the fundraiser party this past Friday evening:

Hyannis firefighters also sent in a few photos of their own:
Hyannis Firefighter David Webb was the fundraiser organizer and he did a tremendous job reaching out and raising awareness about the cause. The entire Hyannis Fire Department and fundraiser contributors are to be commended for their generosity and sincere concern for the children of Hyannis. The entire event sends a positive message and lets the children of our village know there are so many who truly care.
WELL DONE HFD!
