VIDEO: Elderly man seriously hurt at 28 and Pitchers… heartwarming fist bump… puppy recovered… (sowing the seeds of love!)
HYANNIS – Barnstable Police and Hyannis Rescue rushed to the intersection of Route 28 and Pitchers Way earlier this evening for a two car accident where an elderly male driver received a nasty head wound after apparently hitting the windshield.
As you will see in the following HN footage, which fully documents the scene, the first police officer to arrive immediately tended to the wounded elderly driver.
(WAIT FOR IT — Be sure to watch further on in the video, where the same officer notices and recognizes a young child in the other vehicle, taking the time and setting the boy at ease by giving him an all-important “fist bump;” (it’s little well-placed kind gestures like this one, which cost nothing, that have been known to influence the trajectory of young lives…) which is why the entire Cape loves our dedicated Barnstable Police Officers who go that extra mile and seldom put a bad foot forward, IMHO…)
The elderly man was seriously injured, but initial reports from the scene were that he was conscious… which is always a good sign. He was eventually transported to CCH.
The accident is being investigated by the Barnstable Police Department.
NOTE: HN has learned that the Barnstable Police recovered a puppy at the scene, which may have been in the vehicle with the elderly man at the time of the crash… the puppy is currently in the custody of the Town of Barnstable until its owner recovers… or until someone comes forward to take custody…
UPDATE: According to a HN reader, here’s a picture of the puppy that was at the car accident today on Route 28… (very possibly the dog from the accident at Pitchers and Route 28…) It was said to be covered with blood and running in the roadway. A mother and daughter took care of the dog while the owner was getting help… the following photo shows the dog in the backseat with the HN reader’s daughter. The dog, whose name remains uncertain, was said to be sweet and very loveable… ( Photo courtesy of Carina Howdyshell )
