*** NEW DETAILS *** Alcohol Suspected After 25-Year-Old Woman Crashes SUV Into Route 6 Guardrail — Moments After Troopers Alerted for Erratic Driver [HN Video]
UPDATE – Sunday, May 3, 2026:
According to Massachusetts State Police documents filed in Barnstable District Court on April 30, 2026, Samantha Halle Holton, 25, of Plymouth is charged with the following:
- Second Offense OUI-Liquor,
- Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle,
- Marked Lanes Violation, and
- Possession of Open Containers of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle.
According to a report filed by Trooper James Marsh of the Massachusetts State Police, he was the first trooper on the scene of last Wednesday’s single-vehicle crash on Route 6 eastbound at mile marker 72. When he got out of his cruiser, a witness reportedly ran over to him stating that the single vehicle had just blown past him at over 89 MPH prior to crashing. Holton was reportedly outside of her vehicle and able to speak with Trooper Marsh. Her eyes were reportedly bloodshot and red, and she had a laceration on the right side of her head. She told the trooper that her head hurt.
Another witness described Holton’s alleged erratic driving prior to the crash, saying that she drove past him, weaving in and out of traffic.
During an “inventory” of Holton’s vehicle prior to it being towed, troopers reportedly found “six ‘Corona Extra’ cans cold to the touch on the passenger side and on the [driver’s] side of the vehicle unopened…” There were also reportedly seventeen “Jose Cuervo Tequila” nip bottles. Four empty tequila nip bottles were reportedly found in the center console within reach of the driver’s seat.
At the hospital, Holton first reportedly denied having anything to drink prior to the crash, but eventually did admit to having a drink. Holton reportedly refused to participate in field sobriety testing. Trooper Marsh reportedly detected a “slight odor of alcohol emanating from” Holton. After being advised of her statutory rights while under arrest, Holton reportedly refused a blood draw to test for the level of alcohol in her system. Trooper Marsh then completed a “preservation request” for any blood or urine samples drawn by the hospital during her treatment. (There were no details regarding the alleged level of alcohol in Holton’s system in the police paperwork received by HN on April 30, 2026.)
During the booking process, Holton was advised she’d be receiving a notice of her driver’s license suspension in the mail. A computer check revealed that Holton’s previous drunk driving charge was on September 18, 2023. That first OUI charge was eventually continued without a finding in Stoughton District Court.
[HN Note: No booking photo of the suspect was available at the time of this report. On 5/3/26, HN reached out to the MSP Media Relations unit requesting one… and was told the request was being looked into and they’d be getting back to HN…]
INITIAL HN REPORT AND VIDEO PUBLISHED ON APRIL 29, 2026:
YARMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS — A 25-year-old woman was transported to Cape Cod Hospital with suspected alcohol in her system Wednesday evening after her SUV suddenly jumped a curb on Route 6 eastbound and slammed into a guardrail near the Willow Street on-ramp, according to radio transmission and sources on scene.
State police and Yarmouth firefighters raced to the scene shortly before 7 p.m. following reports of a crash initially described as a rollover. When crews arrived, they found the SUV had veered from the highway, crossed the curbing separating the travel lanes from the on-ramp, and struck the metal guardrail barrier. No other vehicles were involved.
Sources indicate troopers had been actively looking for an erratic driver in the area just moments before the crash — and investigators believe the wrecked SUV was the same vehicle.
The woman, the sole occupant, was conscious and alert but “banged up,” according to first responders. She told rescuers she had no memory of the crash and it remains unclear whether she briefly lost consciousness. She allegedly had “ETOH” — alcohol — on board, according to radio transmissions captured by Hyannis News.
A Yarmouth Fire Department ambulance crew transported her to Cape Cod Hospital in “priority two” condition. A state trooper followed to the hospital to continue the crash investigation.
The incident remains under investigation by Massachusetts State Police. No charges have been announced. [DEVELOPING]
