*** WATCH *** BACK-TO-BACK FIRES KEEP YARMOUTH AND CENTERVILLE CREWS BUSY DURING OVERNIGHT
HN VIDEO NOTES:
Last evening, firefighters in Yarmouth and Barnstable tackled two separate fires, as captured in the following HN Video report.
The first fire broke out just before midnight on the back deck of a home on Barnboard Lane in West Yarmouth. Yarmouth Fire Chief Enrique Arrascue, in a brief interview featured in the following video, explained that a woman at home with young children and two dogs noticed smoke and acted swiftly. She called 9-1-1 and attempted to slow the fire with a garden hose while awaiting firefighters. The woman, children, and dogs safely evacuated, though the woman was treated on scene for smoke inhalation and released. Firefighters efficiently stretched lines and extinguished the blaze, preventing it from spreading into the home. Chief Arrascue called it a “great save.” And while the deck required partial dismantling to address hot spots, damage was minimal. The Yarmouth Fire Department is now investigating the fire’s cause.
Around 1:00 a.m., a second fire broke out in the garage of a home on Prince Hinckley Road in Centerville. The following HN Video captures tense moments as responding units were initially unsure whether two children had escaped due to lost contact with the 9-1-1 caller. An occupant managed to extinguish much of the fire using a garden hose. The fire appeared to have started on or near garage shelving. Upon arrival, firefighters were relieved to learn all occupants had safely evacuated. Crews quickly established a water supply and stretched a line, while checking the home for fire extension. The fire was suspected to possibly be electrical, prompting the response of a Town of Barnstable wiring inspector to investigate. EMTs evaluated the occupants, and no injuries were reported. Damage was confined to the garage area. The Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Fire Department is investigating the cause.
The following HN Video provides footage and emergency radio transmissions from both incidents, showcasing the swift and effective response of local fire crews.
