INITIAL HN REPORT & VIDEO:
*** WATCH *** BARNSTABLE POLICE SERGEANT REPORTEDLY FORCED OFF ROADWAY BY DRUNK, UNLICENSED DRIVER
HYANNIS – A Barnstable Police Sergeant says he was forced off the road by a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction around [1:15 a.m.] this morning. The sergeant says he had to take quick action in order to avoid being struck head-on by the other vehicle crossing over into his lane. The front right tire of his cruiser got a flat when it went over the curb. Despite the flat tire, and as you will see in the following HN Video, the sergeant was able to turn around, get behind the other vehicle, and conduct a traffic stop on Bearses Way near the intersection with Bumpus Road.
Upon speaking with the driver, and as you can hear in the following HN Video, one of the first things that concerned the police sergeant was that the other driver’s pants were allegedly undone. He can be heard asking the male driver why his pants were undone… and why he had Vaseline on the floor in front of the driver’s seat. (Was this also a case of distracted driving?)
The sergeant then asked the man how much he had to drink, and the man answered “dos” (meaning two in Spanish).
After a brief investigation, the man was taken into custody for suspicion of Operating Under the Influence and possible additional charges…. he was also said to be Unlicensed in Massachusetts.
Two flatbed tow trucks were called to the scene, one for the sergeant’s cruiser and the other for the vehicle that allegedly had just forced the sergeant’s cruiser off the roadway.
The following HN Video highlights the arrest. It also contains police radio transmissions.
