HYANNIS – Firefighters responded to an alarm at an apartment building at 80 Yarmouth Road, at around 12:30 p.m. today. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered fire in the basement. According to Capt. Ryan Clough of the Hyannis Fire Department – in an on-camera interview – he discovered a woman hanging out a rear window and was able to assist her out safely. Five additional residents were also discovered still meandering around inside the apartment building. All residents were able to evacuate safely. There were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and it appears eight of the building’s residents will be displace, according to Capt. Clough. Firefighters also battled today’s extreme heat while fighting the fire.
