*** WATCH *** BREAKING & ENTERING IN PROGRESS: Hyannis male arrested after captured on HN dashcam walking from scene…
HYANNIS – A man called police when he heard footsteps downstairs in his home shortly after two o’clock this morning…
… and the suspect somehow managed to walk away wearing the homeowner’s sneakers, just prior to officers arriving on scene.
At 2:23 a.m., Barnstable Police patrol officers quickly made their way toward an address on South Street. The homeowner waited upstairs while officers made sure things were safe.
HN had been right behind responding cruisers when I noticed a young adult male walking away from the scene wearing a surgical mask. He made eye contact with me as I slowed to get a better look. I thought it was unusual for someone to be out so early, walking in the rain, in close proximity to a possible B&E in progress.
Upon learning that there had been an actual breaking and entering, I approached a police lieutenant and told him I had dashcam footage of a possible suspect walking away just as officers were arriving on scene. The lieutenant took a screenshot of the suspect in the footage and sent it to other officers in the area. The image gave officers a better idea of who they were looking for.
Minutes later, Lieutenant Joe Green encountered an adult male fitting the suspect description at the intersection of Potter Ave and South Street. A computer check revealed the male had a history of Breaking and Entering, according to radio traffic. Officers also learned the male appeared to be wearing the homeowner’s stolen black “Skechers.” The male was placed under arrest at this point.
A member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit arrived and assisted with photos and evidence collection. Items left at the crime scene were bagged and taken as evidence.
Kyle Thomas Galvin, age 24, from Hyannis, was arrested and charged with Burglary, Larceny Under $1200, and Malicious Destruction of Property. Galvin was transported back to BPD Headquarters for processing and booking photos.
