COMM FD MEDIA STATEMENT: At 01:39 this morning the COMM Fire Department received a call for a motor vehicle crash with serious injuries. Upon the arrival of COMM FD personnel, two patients were found (one) with critical injuries as a result of car vs tree. One patient needed to be extricated from the vehicle with the use of hydraulic rescue tools. Due to the severity of the injuries, a medflight helicopter was requested, however medflight was later discontinued and both patients were transported by COMM FD ambulances to Cape Cod Hospital for further treatments.

INITIAL HN REPORT:

MARSTONS MILLS – A female driver is in critical condition after her vehicle slammed into a tree on Race Lane this morning. An adult male passenger was also injured but was conscious and alert when HN arrived on scene.

The single vehicle crash happened sometime around 1:39 a.m. on Race Lane near the intersection with Columbia Ave.

The driver was entrapped, and Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Firefighters needed to use the jaws of life to free her from the wreckage. A Medflight helicopter was called off moments prior to landing at the Marstons Mills airfield. The driver was instead transported to Cape Cod Hospital with injuries that were life-threatening.

The male passenger was also transported to Cape Cod Hospital. He was conscious and alert upon being loaded into an ambulance.

Police were called by residents after they reportedly heard a loud crash on the street outside their home.

A police accident reconstruction expert responded to the scene and the crash is being investigated by the Barnstable Police Department.
