*** WATCH *** DRIVER & PASSENGER TAKEN TO CCH AFTER HIGH-SPEED CRASH INTO HIGHWAY ATTENUATOR
WEST YARMOUTH – As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, at around [3] a.m. this morning, Yarmouth Police, state police, and firefighters responded to Route 6 westbound after a vehicle crashed into the attenuator at Exit 72 (the old Exit 7) at high-speed. A highway crash attenuator is a safety device designed to reduce damage to vehicles and motorists when a vehicle leaves the roadway.
The attenuator and Toyota Corrolla were both heavily damaged. The 22-year-old male driver was able to self-extricate and was speaking with officers when HN arrived on scene. The passenger, a 16-year-old female, left the scene in another vehicle, according to radio transmissions. State police and rescue met the female passenger in the second vehicle which pulled over further west down the highway. The passenger was complaining of head pain, according to radio transmissions. Both the driver and passenger were transported to Cape Cod Hospital.
The Massachusetts State Police are investigating the cause of the crash, and the Mass Dept. of Transportation was said to be responding to deal with the exposed guardrail. The following HN Video contains still photos, dashcam footage, and police radio transmissions.
