YARMOUTH – [HN NOTES] – Whenever I hear a Massachusetts State Trooper repeat “bad crash, bad crash,” with all three entrapped, I reluctantly brace myself for highway carnage.

As you will see and hear in the following HN “Video,” at around 3:20 a.m. this morning, state police and EMS scrambled toward Route 6, just prior to Exit 72 (the old Exit 7), after a trooper came across a serious crash that left a single vehicle on its side in a westbound travel lane. Initially entrapped, all three occupants were extricated with the assistance of troopers, and miraculously, all three barely had a scratch!

They were all very fortunate, and I told one of the passengers – because I was so relieved to see her in one piece – to “buy a lottery ticket tomorrow!” In turn, she was very grateful to have survived, giving all her thanks to God. All first responders on scene appeared to have the same sentiment, relief after expecting the worst.

All three passengers, the male driver and two females, were reportedly wearing their seat belts. All three are newly arrived from Brazil, with an emerging range of English skills, from none to a few words. We were able to basically communicate in Spanish (many Portuguese speakers from Brazil are able to understand Spanish).

The driver was cooperative and admitted to having three to four beers about three hours prior to the crash. He was arrested on the suspicion of Operating Under the Influence and transported to the State Police Barracks in South Yarmouth.
