*** WATCH *** HYANNIS OFFICIALS INVESTIGATING AFTER APARTMENT BUILDING CATCHES FIRE…
HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN VIDEO NOTES] – As you will see in the following HN video, which begins with reader cellphone footage taken from a distance, flames were suddenly observed outside a second story apartment last evening. The fire broke out at around 8:29 p.m., at 171 Main Street, outside one of the rear apartments.
According to witnesses, Hyannis firefighters were en route when a male civilian came running with a fire extinguisher from the area of 209 Main Street and quickly knocked down the bulk of the flames.
As you will see in the following video, HN arrived when Hyannis Firefighters were on a second story deck, wetting down and tearing into the outer wall, checking for extension. Occupants of the apartment building were already evacuated, enduring a light rain while awaiting word on when they could safely reenter their homes.
At first, it appeared the fire could have possibly started from what appeared to possibly be an outside grill… but that turned out not to be the case, according to fire officials. According to Chief Peter Burke of the Hyannis Fire Department, the cause of the fire has not yet been determined… and remains under investigation.
At the request of fire officials, a member of the Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit took photos of the scene.
There were no reported injuries and the residents were eventually able reenter the building.
The following HN Video highlights the entire scene. HN will provide official updates when they become available…
