*** WATCH *** LARGE DOG RESCUED FROM OPEN BACKYARD SEPTIC TANK
HYANNIS, Massachusetts – A dog is very lucky this afternoon after being pulled from an open backyard septic tank that was in the process of being pumped. Thankfully, the dog survived and is now okay, according to sources. (But he probably needs a long bath…)
As you will see and hear in the following HN “video,” at around 12:40 p.m. this afternoon, dedicated Hyannis Firefighters, Barnstable Police Officers, and Barnstable Animal Control Officers all rushed to the Compass Circle address to save the dog. All involved had an abundance of concern for the dog, to say the least. The dog’s owners were obviously extremely worried and upset as they helplessly looked on.
Upon arrival, Firefighters found an “older” dog, approximately weighing 80 lbs., down inside the septic tank, waist deep in sewage. The dog did not appear injured. Firefighters deployed a type of special flotation device as they awaited Animal Control Officers to arrive and assist. Animal Control Officers arrived with a snare pole. Together, Firefighters and ACOs teamed up to reach down into the sewage to save the dog. It was a stinky operation…
Once safely pulled up and out of the sewer hole, “Naro” (spelling?), described as an 80 pound “mixed breed” by Captain Ryan Clough of the Hyannis FD, appeared very happy to be free and reunited with his owners.
The dedicated rescuers exposed to the septic tank’s bio-hazardous contents, had to carefully decontaminate both themselves and pieces of equipment. None of the first responders were injured during the chaotic animal rescue.
Naro could not be reached for comment.
The following HN “video” highlights the scene with still photos and emergency radio transmissions…
