*** NEW DETAILS *** HARWICH MALE ALLEGEDLY PUT GUN TO “EX-WIFE’S” FACE… HYANNIS MALE ALSO ARRESTED ON FELONY CHARGES…
HYANNIS – According to Barnstable Police reports filed yesterday – Monday, 10/24/2022 – in Barnstable District Court, officers were dispatched to a home on Hamden Circle regarding an assault involving a firearm. While en route, officers learned the suspect had already left the residence in a red Mitsubishi Outlander.
Upon arrival, officers learned the alleged victim, an adult female, was currently in the process of getting divorced from the suspect, who had been reportedly now residing in Harwich, along with other local addresses, for about the past three months.
The alleged victim told officers she had been receiving text messages from the suspect (her soon-to-be ex-husband). At approximately midnight, the suspect sent a text, apparently upset about someone who was staying overnight at the Hamden Circle address. A picture of the overnight guest’s vehicle was texted to the alleged victim from the suspect. A few minutes after receiving the picture, the alleged victim reported her ex suddenly forced himself into the residence by breaking open the rear sliding glass door. She reportedly observed her ex move through the kitchen toward her with a black pistol pointed at her. The suspect then allegedly pressed the barrel of the pistol onto the woman’s face while pushing her against the wall. The suspect then reportedly grabbed the woman’s hair as he turned to flee out the broken sliding glass door, pulling her, and allegedly telling her, “You will feel this.”
The woman then reportedly told officers she observed another individual outside of her residence. The suspect and this unknown individual then fled the area in the red Mitsubishi.
The alleged victim then reportedly told officers that her ex used what appeared to be a black Sig Sauer 1911 pistol during the assault, and that she knew he was in possession of at least two other firearms.
The hunt for the suspect lasted throughout the overnight, and on Sunday, October 23, 2022, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Barnstable Police detectives and patrol officers arrested the suspect at a hotel room on Ocean Street in Hyannis.
Devonnie Sinclair (the soon-to-be ex-husband), currently of Harwich, was charged with Home Invasion, Aggravated Armed Burglary, Assault and Battery of a Family Household Member, and Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (firearm).
Sinclair was arraigned Monday, 10/24/2022. He is currently being held in custody until his next scheduled court appearance.
…..
BUT the story doesn’t end there! As you will see in the following HN Video, while police were investigating the alleged Hamden Circle crime scene, and also actively hunting for Sinclair who was reportedly traveling in the red Mitsubishi Outlander, HN observed a suspicious vehicle enter the neighborhood, slowly traveling in the direction of Hamden Lane. In my rear-view mirror, it appeared as though the driver may have shut off the vehicle’s lights while still traveling toward the scene. I was concerned for the individuals still at the crime scene and dialed 911. This was reportedly a volatile domestic situation, possibly involving a firearm. The possibility of some type of “ambush” crossed my mind.
Based on information obtained during my 911 call, officers were able to determine that it was, in fact, the suspect vehicle. They then quickly stopped the red Mitsubishi just as it was apparently trying to leave the neighborhood.
As you will see in the following HN Video, officers conducted a high-risk felony stop, taking the male driver (the sole occupant at that time) into custody. Two pistols were secured as the male was being detained, one from inside his waistband at his right hip, another reportedly from his front pocket.
One of the weapons recovered from the driver was a legally registered .45 Sig Sauer 1911. The second firearm recovered from the driver’s pocket was a .380 Smith and Wesson “Bodyguard” pistol. An NCIC computer inquiry of the .380’s serial number revealed it was not registered to the driver and had been reported stolen from the State of New Jersey.
After an investigation, Sheldon Cooper, age 33, of Hyannis, was arrested and charged with Receiving Stolen Property (a firearm), Improper Storage of a Firearm, Unattended Ammunition, and Accessory After the Fact.
Cooper was arraigned Monday, October 24, 2022 and his bail was set $1000.
No further pertinent details regarding this case were available at the time of this report. There were no booking photos available either…
* The details contained in the above HN report are based on police radio transmissions, court documents, and information on scene. The defendants are presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
The following HN Video from the night of the alleged crime, shows Barnstable Police Officers and a Barnstable County Sheriff’s Deputy conducting a felony traffic stop on the red Mitsubishi being driven by Sheldon Cooper.
