*** WATCH *** MAN CHARGED WITH A&B DANGEROUS WEAPON AFTER FLEEING SCENE, POSTS EXPLANATION ON INSTAGRAM
HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS — [HN VIDEO NOTES] – A 25-year-old Barnstable resident, Malichi Walsh, was arrested last night after allegedly assaulting a bouncer at the Embargo restaurant on Main Street and fleeing the scene while broadcasting his side of the story on Instagram.
At approximately 9:40 p.m., Barnstable Police responded to reports of a disturbance at the popular downtown restaurant. According to police, staff requested assistance in removing an individual from the premises. Upon arrival, officers learned that a physical altercation had occurred, leaving a bouncer with injuries to his shoulder and ribs. Hyannis Fire Department EMTs treated the bouncer on-site before transporting him to Cape Cod Hospital for further care.
The suspect, identified as Walsh, reportedly left the scene on foot. Witnesses provided a description, and an officer soon spotted him walking along West Main Street, still recording a public Instagram video in which he shared his perspective on the incident. The video, combined with witness statements, provided police with sufficient probable cause for an arrest.
Walsh was charged with Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (Shod Foot). He was booked at Barnstable Police Headquarters and later released, according to police sources.
The investigation included review of the suspect’s Instagram video, which offered a glimpse into his account of the altercation. Hyannis News captured still photos from the crime scene, along with police radio transmissions and a screenshot-type video of Walsh’s Instagram post, which had been made available to the public (see following HN Video).
Authorities continue to investigate the incident, and further details may emerge as the case progresses.
NOTE: All defendants are presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
