HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN VIDEO NOTES] – [DEVELOPING] – Barnstable Police and Hyannis Rescue responded to the Embargo Restaurant on Main Street shortly before closing this morning for a report of a glass being broken across someone’s head.
The suspect was said to have gotten into a gray Toyota Highlander before driving away toward High School Road.
As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, patrol officers caught up to the suspect vehicle on Bearses Way and were able to conduct a traffic stop near the intersection with Quaker Road.
Officers noticed one man had blood on him along with a laceration on one of his fingers. Hyannis Rescue responded to the car stop and bandaged up the man’s finger.
Meanwhile, at the Embargo Restaurant, Hyannis Rescue evaluated the victim. (The extent of the victim’s injuries was unknown at the time of this report… developing)
A member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit responded to both Embargo and BPD Headquarters to photograph evidence.
The police report was still being worked on at the time of this HN report and many details were not readily available.
HN was in the lobby of Barnstable Police Headquarters when the bail commissioner was speaking with the suspect by utilizing a telephone Spanish/English translator. The bail commissioner was explaining to the suspect that he needed to surrender his passport in order to be bailed out… and that his passport would later be returned to the suspect when he showed up to court on Monday. (It was a Colombian passport according to sources.) In short, for one reason or another, the suspect refused to sign the bail commissioner’s paperwork, stating, “Tengo mis derechos.” (I have my rights.)
It’s uncertain exactly why, but the suspect stopped cooperating with the bail process. Once refusing to sign the bail paperwork, the only other option was for the suspect to be placed back inside his jail cell, to be held in custody until Monday morning at Barnstable District Court.
One police source mentioned the glass broken on the person’s head at Embargo may have actually been some type of bottle. HN will provide clarification upon receiving the arrest report.
At this time, it’s unknown what led up to the alleged assault and battery. The suspect with the Colombian passport is being charged with Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, a serious felony.
The following HN Video highlights both scenes, Embargo and the traffic stop where the arrest was made. The video also contains actual police radio traffic. HN will provide updated official details as they become available…. [DEVELOPING]
