*** WATCH *** MAN STRUCK WHILE ATTEMPTING TO CROSS DIVIDED, FOUR-LANE SECTION OF RTE. 132
BARNSTABLE, MASSACHUSETTS – A middle-aged man was struck and badly hurt on Route 132 (Iyannough Road) near the entrance to the Best Western Hotel at around 6:30 p.m. last evening – Friday, February 7, 2025. The entrance to the hotel is near the Hyannis/Barnstable village line, where Route 132 is divided into two lanes heading north toward Route 6 and two lanes heading south toward Hyannis. It is believed the man was walking from the hotel property when he was clipped by a sedan traveling north. It appears the man may have been attempting to cross the state highway to get to a Mobil gas station/store on the west side of the divider. It was dark at the time and the store appeared to still be open for business. The driver of the vehicle which struck the pedestrian immediately pulled over and remained on scene.
As you will hear in the following HN Video, a policeman immediately closed down both northbound lanes upon finding the victim down in the roadway. The man was conscious and alert. It was determined that a Medflight helicopter would not be necessary, and the patient was eventually transported to Cape Cod Hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
A member of the Barnstable Police Department’s accident reconstruction unit arrived on scene to assist with the investigation. A member of the sheriff’s crime scene unit responded to photograph evidence. The Barnstable Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash, which appears purely accidental at this point… and the sedan appears to have been traveling posted speeds, according to one source.
Traffic was rerouted for a period of time along Attucks Lane which runs parallel to Route 132 northbound.
The following HN Video highlights the scene…
