UPDATE 2 – 8/16/2022 @ 10PM:
At approximately 11:53 a.m. on Tuesday 8/16/22, the Barnstable Police Department was called to 3900 Falmouth Rd/Rte 28 in Marstons Mills regarding an accident with personal injury. Upon arriving at the scene, good Samaritans were giving CPR to a motorcyclist that had been involved in an accident with a pick-up truck.
While two Barnstable Officers were giving CPR to the 18 year old motorcyclist from Centerville, the operator of the pick-up truck drove away from the accident scene without identifying himself.
Shortly thereafter, Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Rescue personnel treated and transported the injured motorcycle operator to Cape Cod Hospital, where upon arrival he was pronounced dead.
At the crash scene, witnesses assisted the police department with identifying the suspect driver, 71 year old Richard Collins of Ipswich, MA. A BOLO was put out to other neighboring law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for Collins and his black Chevy truck. After receiving the BOLO, Mashpee Police Department was able to provide a possible local address where Collins was staying.
Barnstable Officers then went to an Osterville residence several miles from the crash scene and arrested Richard Collins. Collins is charged with Motor Vehicle Homicide

………………..
INITIAL HN REPORT:
MARSTONS MILLS – As you will hear in the following HN “video,” at around noon today – Tuesday, 8/16/2022 – Barnstable Police officers and local firefighters scrambled toward a crash involving a motorcycle on Route 28, just west of the intersection with Putnam Ave (near the entrance to Stop & Shop).
Official details have not yet been released, but there apparently was a collision between a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle in the area of the intersection. It is unknown whether the passenger vehicle remained on scene, and radio transmissions appear to indicate police were looking for what was described as a “suspect” vehicle in relation to the crash.
The motorcyclist was critically injured during the crash and was being given CPR by individuals who stopped to help, according to radio transmissions and sources on scene. (Again, no official details have been released at the time of this report.)
A Medflight helicopter was requested and then canceled. Radio transmissions indicate the patient was eventually transported to Cape Cod Hospital.
Experts from the Barnstable Police Accident Reconstruction Unit immediately arrived on scene and took over the investigation.
