HYANNIS – An alert Barnstable Police patrolman noticed an unusual amount of smoke billowing from a pizza truck parked outside of Pizza Barbone this afternoon. He immediately notified the Hyannis Fire Department and began investigating further. The truck was parked right next to the building and when he noticed flames shooting from the truck, he alerted restaurant occupants they needed to evacuate in case the fire spread.

The truck’s wood fired oven was in use, according to sources on scene. Cabinets and wood paneling appear to have ignited. Firefighters needed to tear into the wood paneled walls while removing flammable items from the vehicle.

The quick action of the patrolman prevented the situation from growing further out of hand. Hyannis firefighters were able to hunt down and extinguish all hot spots.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Hyannis Fire Department.
