BREWSTER – Police are investigating a bizarre scene where a car somehow managed to drive over a sandy bluff and crash onto the beach below. Both of the vehicle’s occupants were injured.
Shortly after 1:00 a.m. this morning – Monday, September 12, 2022 – Brewster police and firefighters responded to Upper Breakwater Beach at the end of Breakwater Road for a report of a motor vehicle crash. First responders found two injured occupants and requested two ambulances. A Brewster FD ambulance responded, along with a second mutual aid ambulance from the Dennis Fire Department.
Two occupants were found injured and at least one needed to be extricated from the crash scene using a stokes rescue basket, according to radio transmissions. Both patients were transported to Cape Cod Hospital in “priority two” condition, according to Chief Robert Moran of the Brewster Fire Department.
The investigation into what caused the crash onto the Brewster beach is ongoing, according to police sources on scene.
UPDATE – Brewster FD media statement – 9/12/2022 @ 9:30AM: At 1:07 am this morning Brewster Fire/Rescue was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident at the upper Breakwater Beach Landing. On arrival units found a vehicle had traveled through a split rail fence and over the dune eventually coming to rest in a vertical position on the beach. Firefighters and police officers quickly evaluated and extricated two victims from the vehicle who were transported to Cape Cod Hospital by Brewster and Dennis Fire Department ambulances with serious non-life threatening injuries. Brewster Fire would like to thank Brewster Police and Dennis Fire for their assistance at the accident scene and Harwich Fire who covered an additional medical response during the incident.
