*** WATCH *** TREE STOPS OUT OF CONTROL TRUCK FROM BARRELING INTO OCCUPIED APPARTMENTS… 37-Y-O DRIVER EXPECTED TO BE OKAY…
HYANNIS – As you will see in the following HN Video, a tree “fortunately” stopped a large, out of control pickup truck from crashing through the side of an occupied apartment building early this morning. And thankfully the driver is expected to be okay…
The crash happened shortly after midnight in front of the Colonial Court Condominiums at 301 West Main Street. That particular section of West Main Street is a straightaway and an odd location for a vehicle to almost strike a building so far off the roadway. And as you will see in the following HN Video, the out of control truck was still traveling pretty fast before making impact with one of the several trees on the property, just yards away from the brick facade of the multi-family apartment/condo building.
The driver was banged up and needed to be assisted onto a stretcher. He was conscious and alert, and his injuries were believed to be relatively minor [UPDATE: injuries turned out to be more serious than initially believed, but not believed to be life threatening, sources say] at the time of this report. He was transported to Cape Cod Hospital.
The Barnstable Police Department is investigating what caused the large 2007 GMC pickup to leave the roadway, jump a curb, crash through a fence, and travel 40 or more yards across condo grounds before slamming into the tree.
UPDATE: According to police sources, the investigation continued at Cape Cod Hospital and the driver is looking at motor vehicle violations, but no criminal charges…
