YARMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS – [NEW DETAILS] – A 48-year-old woman from Easton, Maryland is accused of drunk driving while dragging street signs she allegedly ran over while traveling the wrong way in downtown Hyannis last evening. Once allegedly barreling over the signage, she reportedly traveled with a metal signpost and signs trapped underneath a 2017 Volkswagen Passat for nearly four miles into the Town of Yarmouth.

According to a report by Patrolman Kyle Dipirro of the Yarmouth Police Department, shortly after 7:00 p.m. he was advised of a motor vehicle complaint regarding a black Volkswagen Passat traveling eastbound on Route 28 with passenger side damage. The vehicle was reportedly sparking.

A short time later, while in the vicinity of the Parker’s River Bridge, Patrolman Dipirro reportedly observed the Volkswagen Passat traveling eastbound along Route 28. In his report, Patrolman Dipirro noted that both vehicle and pedestrian was heavy. Patrolman Dipirro observed the vehicle “to have heavy front passenger side damage, and to be loudly dragging a street directly underneath it, causing visible sparking.” At this time, Patrolman Dipirro also reportedly received word from dispatch that the Barnstable Police Department was looking for the same vehicle for a motor vehicle crash that had just occurred in their town.

When Patrolman Dipirro conducted a traffic stop in front of the Pirate’s Cove mini golf course, he asked the driver of the Volkswagen Passat if she noticed anything wrong with her car, to which she reportedly stated she did not believe there was anything wrong. The driver also reportedly did not remember hitting anything or being involved in a crash. The driver reportedly had watery and bloodshot eyes and the officer reportedly “detected the overwhelming odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from her breath as she spoke.” When asked, the driver reportedly told the officer she didn’t have anything to drink that evening.

Upon stepping out of the vehicle, the driver was reportedly observed to be extremely unsteady and was “using her hands on the car to balance herself multiple times.”

At one point the driver reportedly stumbled and appeared to be about to fall. As she was observing the damage, Patrolman Dipirro reportedly asked the driver again if she had anything to drink. The driver then reportedly admitted to having two gin drinks at Spanky’s in Hyannis.

The driver then reportedly failed field sobriety testing, nearly falling onto her car at one point. Because she was reportedly very unsteady, and it was determined to be unsafe to continue further testing. Patrolman Dipirro then placed the driver in handcuffs.

The driver was transported while in custody to YPD headquarters where she was given a breath test. Her Blood Alcohol Concentration was reportedly .25%. The driver was then advised of her license suspension and issued a criminal citation.

Michelle Heather Stallings, 48, of Easton, Maryland was charged with OUI-LIQUOR and NEGLIGENT OPERATION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE.

It should be noted that a blood alcohol concentration of .25% is OVER THREE TIMES the Massachusetts legal limit.

* At YPD headquarters, Stallings was also reportedly issued a summons from the Barnstable Police Department related to charges she faces for the alleged hit-and-run crash with property damage in Hyannis.

BARNSTABLE/YARMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN “VIDEO” NOTES/DEVELOPING] – As you will see and hear in the following HN “video,” Barnstable and Yarmouth patrol officers had to chase down a vehicle accused of driving the wrong way and taking out street signs on Main Street in Hyannis Wednesday evening – 9/11/24 – at around 7:30 p.m. Yarmouth Police eventually caught up to a vehicle throwing sparks along the pavement while traveling east on Route 28. A traffic stop was conducted in the area of Pirate’s Cove Mini Golf. Yarmouth officers looked underneath the damaged vehicle and discovered a couple street signs that belonged in downtown Hyannis.
