SOUTH YARMOUTH, Mass. – A Yarmouth Police Officer was patrolling near the Route 6 exit ramp just before 1 AM when he came upon a vehicle he thought was disabled. As he went to check on the car, he saw a woman standing outside of it attempting to dial 911. She appeared to be scared and upset as she explained to the officer what had just occurred.
The woman said she did not notice anything out of the ordinary after leaving her friend’s house, but a short time later a light came on inside her car while driving. As she looked into the back seat, she was surprised to see a man hiding with a coat pulled over his head. Extremely frightened, she began driving erratically and the man fell out of the open rear door of the car.
Following a brief investigation by Yarmouth Officers, Jailton Dos Santos, 36, of South Yarmouth, was arrested and charged with breaking and entering into a vehicle in the nighttime.
The Yarmouth Police would like to remind everyone to make sure they lock their unattended vehicles, especially at night.

INITIAL HN REPORT & VIDEO:
YARMOUTH, Massachusetts – As you will see in the following HN Video, Yarmouth patrol officers arrested a man for Felony Nighttime B&E into a Motor Vehicle early this morning after they encountered a South Dennis woman at the Station Ave on-ramp to Route 6 eastbound, scared sick.
As you will also hear in the following HN Video, officers initially thought they had an attempted carjacking, according to police radio transmissions, but it turns out their suspect was already inside the woman’s vehicle as she was driving home.
According to police sources, the middle-aged woman was driving alone from a Yarmouth address early this morning, shortly before 1:00 a.m. She was nearing the highway ramp on Station Ave when a strange man with dreadlocks suddenly popped up inside of her vehicle. Fraught with terror, the woman reportedly began frantically swerving her vehicle. It’s uncertain exactly what happened next, but a police source believes the man was able to roll out onto the ground before escaping.
When HN arrived on scene, the woman was telling officers she was feeling physically ill from the ordeal. Officers appeared to show the woman a picture of a possible suspect and the woman exclaimed, “YES!” (as can be heard in the following video) apparently indicating the man in the photo was the suspect.
Officers began checking the area, eventually checking an address on Aurora Lane, where they located the suspect and took him into custody. The man is being charged with Felony Nighttime B&E into a Motor Vehicle, according to police.
The following HN Video contains footage of police encountering the victim in her vehicle at the Route 6 eastbound on-ramp at Station Ave. The victim had initially been encountered by a Yarmouth patrolman who thought he had just rolled up on a disabled motor vehicle.
