INITIAL HN VIDEO & REPORT:
HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN VIDEO NOTES] – At around midnight, Barnstable Police squad cars began responding to the Cromwell Court Apartment complex at 168 Barnstable Road for a report of multiple gunshots. While responding, first responders learned that a young male had been shot in the “chest and shoulder,” according to radio traffic. (Sources on scene initially mentioned that the victim is a young male, possibly age 18 or older… but that information has not yet been officially confirmed.) The first police officers on scene reportedly began first aid until Hyannis FD Paramedics could take over. Officers then shifted to securing an active crime scene.
The patient was quickly secured onto a stretcher and rushed to Cape Cod Hospital in a Hyannis FD ambulance.
While working the scene, police learned the shooter could still possibly be somewhere inside the building. Families, including young children and babies, needed to evacuate until police could clear the building. Families were able to return inside about 20 minutes later after things were confirmed to be safe.
As you will see in the following HN Video, BPD officers and a member of the sheriff’s crime scene unit began placing numbered markers next to shell casings inside a playground area to the rear of the apartments. HN was told there were a number of bullet holes on and inside the building.
Massachusetts state troopers had also responded to assist in the streets surrounding the complex.
The shooter is still at large. And the shooting is being investigated by the BPD patrol and detective divisions. No further information is available at the time of this report (4:00 a.m.) HN will provide official updates as they become available.
