West Barnstable male accused of choking, beating, kidnapping, and holding shotgun to woman’s head…
WEST BARNSTABLE – On the morning of Saturday, February 15, 2020, a Barnstable Patrolman responded to the YMCA on Route 132 for a female who walked in saying a male household member had held a shotgun to her head and choked her out.
According to a police report filed yesterday in Barnstable District Court, the woman appeared “extremely flustered and upset.” She had her dog with her and told the officer she had just managed to walk away from the residence where everything had allegedly occurred throughout the overnight. It was now 6:52 a.m. and her face reportedly had red marks on each cheek, with what seemed to be swelling. The officer also reportedly observed scratches and more red marks on the woman’s neck.
She named the suspect and alleged he had assaulted her throughout the night while not letting her leave the residence.
At one point the suspect allegedly pointed a shotgun at the woman threatening to kill her. He also allegedly pointed the shotgun at his own head and threatened kill himself.
The woman was asked what led up to the alleged violence and she stated they had been watching The Sopranos when she did something with the television controller which “screwed up” on which specific Sopranos episode they had been watching, and this, among other slights, allegedly made the suspect very angry.
The woman reported the anger escalated further after the suspect went through her cellphone, which led to her being repeatedly punched in her stomach and being told, “I’m not going to let you leave until you start bleeding!”
The woman then reportedly described an ongoing evening of abuse and violence, which included being dragged, choked, and held against her will.
The suspect was also alleged to have once again pointed the shotgun, saying, “I’m going to kill you bitch!”
In the morning the woman reportedly managed to escape when her dog got loose and she stepped out to get it. As she began walking away to find help, she allegedly heard the suspect say, “You’ll be lucky if I don’t shoot you as you’re walking away!”
She reportedly kept on walking and didn’t turn back…
While being interviewed at police headquarters, officers asked why she hadn’t called 911 when she was back inside the residence; she reportedly told officers she wanted to but knew it wouldn’t have ended well, stating, “I knew I wouldn’t be sitting here right now.”
Back at the alleged crime scene, officers reportedly located a shotgun hidden outside to the rear of the house.
According to a criminal complaint filed yesterday in Barnstable District Court, Jamah R. Peters, age 34, of West Barnstable, is being charged with a Firearm Violation with 3 Prior Violent/Drug Crimes, Kidnapping, Strangulation/Suffocation, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Intimidation of a Witness, and A&B on a Household Member.
