SOUTH YARMOUTH – A tearful woman was arrested just moments after multiple squad cars responded to the area of the Yarmouth Commons Apartments early this morning, shortly after 1:30 a.m..
Police were looking for a suspect who allegedly had been “smashing up” someone’s parked vehicle in the Yarmouth Common’s parking lot, according to witnesses.
Responding officers had received a description of a vehicle that allegedly contained the prime suspect leaving the scene.
As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, officers quickly located the vehicle, stopping it on Ocean Ave, just a stone’s throw from the alleged scene of the crime…
Officers spoke with a female driver and a female passenger, eventually asking the female passenger to step out of the vehicle where she was placed in handcuffs and then placed in the back of a Yarmouth Police cruiser.
Officers soon learned they had “PC” or probable cause for charging the suspect with a crime.
Officers had located the damaged SUV outside one of the apartment buildings, with a smashed windshield and what appeared to be the number “50” apparently twice “keyed” into the vehicle’s paint job. A member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit took photos of the damage.
The owner of the vehicle was inside one of the apartments and officers had not yet made contact with him…
According to sources, the prime suspect and owner of the damaged SUV may have been in some type prior relationship together…
The prime suspect is looking at serious charges related to malicious destruction of personal property.
HN will provide official information and updates as it becomes available…
