YARMOUTH K9 APPREHENDS MALE THAT ALLEGEDLY JUST TRIED TO CARJACK NURSE AT CC HOSPITAL EMPLOYEE LOT
WEST YARMOUTH – K9 Patrolman Liam Breen reportedly deployed young “Fredy” over a rear fence in order to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
Details are still developing, but according to several police sources, Yarmouth police squad cars scrambled toward the Cape Cod Hospital employee lot off Bayview Street after an eloped psychiatric patient allegedly tried to pull a female nurse from her personal vehicle and steal it (at around 11:30 p.m. last evening).
[The condition of the nurse was unknown at the time of this report…]
Yarmouth Police K9 Patrolman Breen and patrol dog Fredy were nearby as the adult male suspect tried to make his getaway to the rear of the hospital’s employee lot. Patrolman Breen reportedly commanded the suspect to stop and warned that he was about to release his patrol dog. The suspect reportedly continued to flee over a fence… and that’s when Patrolman Breen deployed young Fredy by assisting him over the fence into an area with thick vegetation. Moments later Patrolman Breen heard that his partner had bitten the suspect and he quickly responded to assist Fredy. The suspect was reportedly fighting with Fredy, sticking his fingers into the dog’s nostrils and trying to force the dog to release him.
It didn’t work.
The suspect was taken into custody and young patrol dog Fredy had his very first bite during a fleeing suspect apprehension.
HN met up with patrol dog Fredy at his second deployment of the overnight, this time for a vandalism suspect, a short while later in Hyannis (see top HN photo). Fredy was uninjured and appeared really happy and excited about having just made his first bite arrest.
HN NOTE: Since all the stores and restaurants were currently closed in Hyannis due to a draconian and idiotic Town of Barnstable curfew bylaw, Patrolman Breen and Fredy were forced to travel to another nearby, reasonable town in hopes of simply purchasing a bacon and egg breakfast sandwich for young Fredy, his reward for a job very well done. (Smarten up Town of Barnstable! Many of our local law abiding residents work overnights and have needs too, you know… The day when the stupid business curfew bylaw is finally repealed cannot happen soon enough, IMHO. Where are we? China? Russia? The People’s Republic of Barnstable?)
HN reached out to the Yarmouth Police Department for additional information and will update the above story with official details as they are released.
