*** WATCH *** CALLED OFF PURSUIT ENDS IN CRASH, K9 BITES HIDING MALE…
WEST YARMOUTH – [DEVELOPING STORY] – According to radio transmissions, at around 2:15 a.m. this morning, a Yarmouth Police cruiser had been trying to catch up to a vehicle traveling south on Camp Street, above the speed limit. The vehicle was said to be blacked out at one point, meaning no lights. Speeds were initially reported at 50 mph in a thickly settled area. When the fleeing vehicle’s speed reached about 85 mph, police command promptly ordered the pursuit be terminated.
As you will see and hear in the following video, HN was nearby and within moments was able to park at the intersection of Camp Street and Route 28, because that’s where the initial pursuit was headed. Moments after parking and turning off my lights, YPD dispatch announced there had just been a crash at the intersection of Camp Street and Baker Ave, a block from where I was parked. I made sure my dashcam was rolling as I turned onto Camp Street, arriving at the crash scene within a few moments. I was able to communicated with arriving Yarmouth Patrol Officers that I had not seen anyone fleeing toward Route 28.
The suspect vehicle from the recently called off chase had just crashed through a fence at the corner of Baker and Camp. The driver had just fled the crash scene seconds prior to the following footage. YPD officers quickly set up a parimeter and deployed a K9 unit. An initial quick search of the area was unfruitful. But upon doubling back and searching further, the K9 located a male hiding a short distance away from the crash. The male was bitten during the arrest.
Yarmouth FD Rescue responded to evaluate the male in custody. The following HN Video highlights the scene and arrest. This is developing story. HN will update this post with official details as soon they become available.
