[MEDIA STATEMENT] On Tuesday, September 29, 2021, Detective Schneeweis was notified that the victim, Welton Willis-Gregory, of the September 14th hit and run has succumbed to her injuries. The men and women of the Yarmouth Police Department offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Welton Willis-Gregory.
The crash is under investigation by the Yarmouth Police Department, Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Accident Reconstruction Team, and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal Investigations. UPDATE #2: YPD MEDIA STATEMENT – 9/15/21
The victim in the crash has been identified. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin. The victim, a 62 year old female, is from Jamaica and was working in the U.S for the summer. The victim was planning on returning home in a few weeks. We are asking for assistance from the public with the identification of the operator and vehicle involved in the crash. The crash occurred sometime around 9:30 PM in front of 229 Route 28 in West Yarmouth. The vehicle should have damage to the front end.

UPDATE #1: YPD MEDIA STATEMENT – 9/15/21
On Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at approximately 9:35 PM, Yarmouth Police and Yarmouth Fire were dispatched to an unknown incident involving a pedestrian at 226 Route 28, the Howard Johnson Motel, in West Yarmouth. A 911 caller reported the pedestrian was down and injured. Officers arrived on the scene and began rendering first aid until the Yarmouth Fire Department arrived. The victim had obvious serious injuries and was transported to Cape Cod Hospital then flown to Boston via Med Flight. Based on evidence at the scene it is believed that the victim was struck by a motor vehicle while walking on Route 28. The suspect vehicle left the area before Police and Fire arrived.
The victim is described as:
– Black Female
– Late 30’s to mid-40’s
– Black hair with some grey highlights. – Hair was pulled back in a ponytail
– Powder blue tee shirt with no writing or insignia of employment
– Blue jeans
– Black and White athletic style shoes
The crash is under investigation by the Yarmouth Police Department, Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Accident Reconstruction Team, and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal Investigations.

INITIAL HN REPORT:
WEST YARMOUTH – A woman was Medflighted in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene last evening.
At around 9:30 p.m., Yarmouth police and EMTs responded to Route 28 in the area of the Bayside Resort for a woman down on the roadside, partially on the sidewalk.
EMTs described the woman as being approximately 50-years-old, with multi-system trauma, including an open skull fracture. She was in priority one condition.
A Yarmouth FD ambulance transported the patient to Cape Cod Hospital while a Medflight helicopter was expected to arrive within 45 minutes. The patient was eventually airlifted to an off-Cape trauma hospital.
The investigation into the hit-and-run is very active and ongoing. The accident scene was reconstructed and Yarmouth patrols and detectives are gathering and analyzing evidence and leads.
