UPDATE: BROOKS CAPTURED!
On Thursday, February 8, 2018 at 10:00AM , Yarmouth Police Department Patrol Officers, Detectives, and Proactive-Anti Crime Unit Officers-led by Patrol Officer Christopher Eccleston- captured 5 time drunk driver Joshua Brooks hiding in a basement at a home in Yarmouthport.
Brooks was taken in to custody and transported to Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters for processing and has been transported to the Barnstable District Court.
Brooks was arrested for drunken driving on Saturday afternoon after nearly crashing in to a fully marked Police Cruiser operated by Patrol Officer Brian Niezgoda.
He had been bailed by the Bail Commissioner after paying $540.00.
Brooks appeared in the Barnstable District Court on Monday but left without finishing his court appearance and has been on the run.
The Yarmouth Police Department Command Staff commends the public for their ongoing support and all of the Police Officers involved in today’s arrest.

UPDATE: MULTIPLE OFFENSE DRUNK DRIVER LEAVES COURT AND IS WANTED
JOSHUA BROOKS, the multiple offense Drunk Driver who nearly crashed in to a Yarmouth Police Cruiser on Saturday, left the Barnstable District Court before completing his court arraignment process and is now wanted.
Brooks has a long criminal record with five previous OUI charges.
He was arrested again by YPD on Saturday and released by the Bail Commissioner after paying the $500 bail and the $40 Bail fee.
Brooks arrived at court on Monday, but did not complete the process and left.

MULTIPLE OFFENSE DRUNK DRIVER NEARLY STRIKES POLICE CRUISER
On Saturday, February 3, 2918 at 3:47PM, Yarmouth Police Department Patrol Officer Brian Niezgoda was on patrol in a marked police cruiser and stopped for the red traffic light at the intersection of Buck Island Road and Higgins-Crowell Road in West Yarmouth.
As the light turned green, Patrol Officer Niezgoda drove forward and noticed a gray truck traveling eastbound driving right at him. In order to avoid a collision, Officer Niezgoda slammed on the brakes and his cruiser came to a sudden stop. The gray truck ran through the red light and came within approximately 6 inches of the front bumper at approximately 40 miles per hour.
Officer Niezgoda avoided the collision and then activated the cruiser blue lights and siren and pulled the gray Dodge Ram truck over at the intersection of Buck Island Road and Barnboard Lane.
Officer Niezgoda encountered the operator and identified him as Joshua Brooks.
Brooks immediately apologized for almost hitting the Officer and stated he had just come from the nearby Dog Park.
Patrol Officer Niezgoda noticed signs of alcohol use and conducted a series of Standardized Field Sobriety Tests.
Brooks failed the tests and was placed under arrest for drunken driving. His vehicle was towed and plates removed and seized.
Upon arrival at Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters, a check of his Massachusetts Criminal History revealed four prior OUI arrests. Two of them were guilty findings that allows for a third offense charge which is considered a felony in Massachusetts.
Brooks was processed and then released on $500 Cash Bail after paying the additional $40 fee for the weekend.
Brooks was arraigned in The Barnstable District Court on Monday, February 5, 2018 and released on the same bail pending his next court date.
