40-YEAR-OLD RUSHED TO CCH WITH LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES AFTER FIREWORKS EXPLOSION IN WEST YARMOUTH
According to a Yarmouth Fire Department media statement, last evening at 7:32 p.m. – July 4th, 2023 – firefighters received multiple calls from 18 Cocheset Path in West Yarmouth, reporting that a 40-year-old male had received traumatic injuries to his leg and hand from a fireworks explosion.
While en route, EMTs inquired about the availability of helicopter transport to an off-Cape trauma center, but learned all air ambulances were unavailable due to unfavorable weather conditions.
The patient was treated on scene and rushed to Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis with serious life-threatening injuries.
The YFD reminds the public “that the use, possession, or sale of fireworks is illegal in the state of Massachusetts. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, there are approximately 10,000 fireworks injuries per year treated at emergency departments. Please leave the fireworks to the professionals, and have a safe and enjoyable Independence Day celebration.”
