Robert Brooks is accused of slashing his sister with a box cutter, punching her in the face repeatedly, and then trying to choke her…
The 31-year-old sister was able to reach for the glass lid of a candy jar (originally thought to be a glass ashtray, see original report below…)… she was able to strike her attacker in the face with the glass lid in an effort to save her life…
The apartment belongs to the grandmother of the brother and sister…
The apartment was splattered with blood and a crime scene investigator was called in to photograph evidence…

Robert Brooks, the brother, was also cut and had injuries to his nose from being struck with with the glass candy jar lid… he was transported to, treated, and arrested upon his release from CCH…
Robert Brooks was held overnight at Barnstable Police Headquarters and was arraigned this morning in Barnstable District Court…
Original report:
Hyannis – Two adult siblings were transported to CCH this evening after an argument turned violent at the Hyannis House Apartments at 290 West Main Street…
The argument began, sadly enough, over funeral arrangements for their mother… emotions were high, things escalated, and turned into a potentially lethal situation…
Police took the 42-year-old brother into custody after he allegedly punched and attempted to choke his sister…
The sister reportedly tried to fight the brother off by hitting him in the face with an ashtray (as updated, it turned out to be the glass lid of a candy jar)…
The brother was already in handcuffs and being treated for facial injuries when Hyannis News arrived (see above images)…
Residents of the normally quiet apartment complex where shocked, especially knowing about the family’s recent loss…
A second Hyannis ambulance responded and began treating the sister inside the apartment…
Both siblings were transported to CCH…
The brother is currently the only one facing charges at the time of this article…
So far he will be charged with Assault and Battery Domestic and A & B Dangerous weapon… police are still contemplating charging him with attempted murder…
Due to the circumstances, along with the ongoing investigation and potential charges, Hyannis News is withholding the names of the brother and sister for the time being…
Police also mentioned the brother is currently being held on a high bail amount…
