*** NEW DETAILS *** 59-YEAR-OLD PEDESTRIAN SUCCUMBS TO INJURIES FROM WELLFLEET HIT-AND-RUN
WELLFLEET PD UPDATE – 7/12/23:
On Monday evening at 9:41 pm, July 10, 2023, the Wellfleet Police Department was called to the scene of a possible hit and run accident involving a male who was lying unresponsive on Route 6
with visible severe head injuries. Immediate lifesaving measures were administered by officers of the Wellfleet Police Department and rescue personnel from the Wellfleet Fire Department within minutes of the call. Med Flight to Boston was requested, but unavailable due to weather conditions, and the patient was transported to Cape Cod Hospital.
Despite the best efforts of all those who responded and treated him, yesterday, Tuesday, July 11, 2023, 59-year-old Jeffrey Richardson, from Brookfield, CT, succumbed to his injuries. Our sincerest condolences go out to his family at this difficult time.
This case is still under active investigation by the Wellfleet Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police, and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office. The public is urged to report any information they may have regarding this case to the department. We are specifically looking for any vehicle with damage to the passenger side, including the passenger side mirror. Please contact Sgt. Nicholas Daley with any information.

*** AUDIO *** WELLFLEET HIT-AND-RUN: PEDESTRIAN FOUND DOWN ON RTE. 6 WITH SEVERE HEAD TRAUMA
WELLFLEET, Massachusetts – According to a media statement, the Wellfleet Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a hit-and-run driver. Last evening around 9:41 p.m. – Monday, July 10, 2023 – the Wellfleet Police Department received a 911 call reporting a man found lying on Route 6 in the area of Nauhaught Bluff Road bleeding from the head. The man was not responsive upon the arrival of police and firefighters. According to Wellfleet FD radio transmissions, they received multiple calls reporting the man bleeding from the head. A doctor reportedly pulled over to assist first responders. CPR was performed. Medflight helicopters were unavailable due to unfavorable weather conditions and the patient was transported to Cape Cod Hospital. Wellfleet Police put out a B.O.L.O. to surrounding police departments saying they had just responded to a vehicle vs. pedestrian hit-and-run with severe injury, and that they were looking for a suspect vehicle of “unknown make and model,” with possible front-end damage. This hit-and-run is being actively investigated by the Wellfleet PD and Barnstable County Bureau of Criminal Investigations. The Wellfleet PD is asking for the public’s assistance. Anyone who was in the area at the time of the hit-and-run and witnessed anything that may be related to this crime is urged to call the Wellfleet Police Department at 508-349-3702.
