*** WATCH *** TENSE SITUATION ENDS PEACEFULLY: Disturbed man reportedly on narcotics, warned cops he had a gun…
As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, police responded to an address in the Town of Barnstable after a disturbed man phoned saying he had gun and that he was under the influence of narcotics. He reportedly mentioned he was “waiting for the police” at one point during a conversation with dispatchers. The address was situated on a dark street and officers had concerns about the man’s intentions as they approached. Police made sure they arrived out of sight of the domicile, where they began gearing up and planning a careful approach. A Hyannis FD Rescue ambulance was asked to respond and stage a safe distance away from the property. In the following HN Video you can hear police attempting to gather further intelligence about the layout of the residence.
The situation ended after the man ultimately indicated he would cooperate with officers and that he wanted them to help him. The man exited the residence with his hands in the air before being secured in handcuffs. He was then transported by Hyannis Rescue to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation.
It’s uncertain at this point whether or not the man will be facing charges. At the time of this report, officers were still investigating whether or not he actually had access to a gun.
As you will see, it was an alarming call that thankfully ended peacefully. Afterwards, one patrolmen mentioned that it “got the blood boiling a little bit…”
… which may have been understated just a smidgen.
