HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS — A Barnstable police officer working a concert detail was struck by a black pickup truck on West Main Street late Sunday and rushed to the hospital in “priority one” condition, sources said. The driver was arrested at the scene after struggling with field sobriety tests.

Police and firefighters raced to the area around 10 p.m. after the officer was found badly injured. The officer’s condition was described as “priority one,” and Cape Cod Hospital was immediately placed on alert for an incoming patient with multi-system trauma.

The officer, an active-duty Barnstable Police Department member, had been helping pedestrians leave a ZZ Top concert at the Cape Cod Melody Tent when he was struck by a pickup truck, according to sources.

West Main Street was shut down as accident reconstruction specialists arrived to examine the scene. As you will see in the following video, the driver of the black pickup that reportedly struck the officer appeared to have difficulty completing field sobriety testing and was taken into custody on the spot.

The officer remained hospitalized at Cape Cod Hospital early Monday. The investigation was active and ongoing, with no further details released at the time of this report.
