Police called after woman seen hanging upside-down from 2nd story...

HYANNIS – At one point the woman was hanging out the 2nd story window upside-down by her feet, sources say…

At about 7:40PM last evening, police rushed to an apartment house at the corner of Main Street and Yarmouth Road after a report of a woman hanging upside-down from a 2nd story window. It’s a property police have responded to many times before…

According to children driving by on bicycles, a woman had also been passed out in the yard of the apartment building not long before this latest incident… (It remains uncertain if it was the very same woman, as many inside that building have issues with alcohol and other drugs…)

Sources say the woman had been upset and highly intoxicated when she tried to climb out the second story window. Friends quickly grabbed her by the feet and pulled her back inside, but not before causing an alarming spectacle that drew the attention of others in the neighborhood.

Police spoke with the female and decided it was in her best interest they take her into Protective Custody. The woman did not want to go peacefully and initially resisted. At one point she even tried to kick officers.

Patrol officers demonstrated patience and restraint as they placed her in the back of an awaiting cruiser. She was transported back to BPD Headquarters where she was held in cell and monitored until she sobered up.

HN NOTE: The intoxicated woman’s friends inside the residence did the right thing and likely prevented her from seriously harming herself. The address, which is across the street from one of the Barnstable Town Hall buildings, is notorious for the abuse of alcohol and other substances. Hopefully this incident is a wake up call for at least one of the individuals involved.
