*** LISTEN *** FOUR HURT AFTER HUMVEE ROLLS OVER DURING TRAINING EXERCISE AT JOINT BASE CAPE COD [HN VIDEO]
JOINT BASE CAPE COD – As you will hear in the following HN video, Joint Base Cape Cod Firefighters responded to a single HUMVEE rollover crash that occurred in the woods, somewhere on the military base, around 3:30 p.m. yesterday – Saturday, March 12, 2022. The initial call said there were four “priority two” patients. All four patients, 2 males and 2 females, were transported from the crash scene to a building on Weaver Road inside the base. The first fire official on scene reported the HUMVEE had rolled over multiple times and that there were several head injuries, according to emergency radio transmissions.
The HUMVEE rollover reportedly happened during some type of training exercise.
The first patient was immediately transported to Cape Cod Hospital in a JBCC FD ambulance. Three additional mutual aid ambulances from Mashpee, Sandwich and Bourne fire departments were called to the base to help the remaining 3 crash victims. The remaining three patients were eventually transported to Falmouth Hospital. The current condition of all four patients is unknown at the time of this report.
Once all four victims were transported to hospitals from the building on Weaver Road, officials began to focus the actual crash scene, a wooded area on or near power lines on base. The Massachusetts State Police were called to the scene to investigate the cause of the crash.
The damage to the HUMVEE was described as “severe” and members of an Army heavy equipment removal team were called in to deal with the wreckage, according to emergency radio transmissions.
