UPDATED: Another fatal drowning at Bayside Resort Hotel… [VIDEO]

WEST YARMOUTH – Police are investigating another fatal drowning at the Bayside Resort Hotel this evening. It’s the third ‘drowning’ victim found in that pool since August…
(HN NOTE: Two were drowning fatalities, the third drowning or ‘near-drowning’ victim was eventually revived and her current condition is unknown. The World Health Organization (WHO) is moving away from the term ‘near-drowning,’ especially when a drowning ‘survivor’ suffers permanent, ongoing, and/or ultimately no ongoing health problems…)
At about 5:22pm, police and rescue rushed to the Bayside Resort at 225 Route 28 for a drowning victim discovered in the hotel’s indoor pool.
At about 5:25pm, the victim was reported to have been lifted out of the water and receiving first aid. According to sources, several bystanders pulled him out of the pool and a young guest called 911.
Thomas J. Flynn, age 40, of Medford, was taken to CCH and pronounced dead by the medical examiner at 6:00pm.
Back at the drowning scene, Yarmouth and state police investigators sealed off the pool area, took photos, and gathered information.
According to a Yarmouth Police press release: “Another guest at the resort entered the pool area with his two children and observed Mr. Flynn lying face down in the shallow end at the bottom of the pool. The guest jumped into the pool and attempted to remove the man as one of his children went to the front desk and advised the staff. Staff members immediately called 911 and assisted in removing the man from the pool and in providing CPR until members of the Yarmouth Police and Fire Departments arrived.” (See actual YPD press release below…)
This is the third fatal indoor hotel pool drowning in the Town of Yarmouth since August:
A 68-year-old NY man drowned at the Riverview Resort back in October (click here for WHDH coverage of that story)… and two sisters were pulled from the Bayside Resort pool just less than four months ago…
Back on August 20, 2014, two young sisters, ages 9 and 12, also ‘drowned’ in the pool at the Bayside Resort Hotel (the 9-year-old eventually died, the 12-year-old was revived but her current condition is unknown). Neither girl was breathing when they were pulled from the pool. Both girls were in critical condition and flown to Boston Children’s Hospital.
The Bayside Resort does not have a lifeguard at their indoor pool and patrons are advised to swim at their own risk. The resort is considered one of Yarmouth’s cleanest and best managed hotels. The hotel was reportedly not found to be at fault in the August drownings.
At this point, tonight’s drowning appears to be an unfortunate tragedy and coincidence which has nothing to do with any previous drownings at that location. However, the investigation is considered “active and ongoing.” Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Yarmouth Police Department Detective Scott Lundegren at 508.775.0445 extension 2332 or the Massachusetts State Police Detectives at 508.394.2233

Actual YPD Press Release:
Yarmouth and State Police Investigate Drowning
On Thursday, December 4, 2014 at approximately 5:22PM, the Yarmouth Police and Fire Departments responded to a 911 call reporting a possible drowning in the pool at the Bayside Resort 225 Route 28 in West Yarmouth.
Yarmouth Police Department Patrol Officers Nicholas Giammarco—Albert Sprague—Kevin Antonovitch—and Sean Gannon arrived on scene as members of the Yarmouth Fire Department were administering CPR and Advanced Life Support to the victim, subsequently identified as Thomas J. Flynn age 40, of 20 Long Street in Medford, Massachusetts, who was promptly transported to Cape Cod Hospital by Yarmouth Fire Department ambulance. Despite all efforts of the First Responders and Cape Cod Hospital medical staff, he was unable to survive and was pronounced deceased.
An initial on-scene investigation was conducted by Yarmouth Police Department Patrol Officers, Detectives, and Massachusetts State Police Detectives that determined that Mr. Flynn had been a guest of the Resort since December 2, 2014 and was in the pool area alone.
Another guest at the resort entered the pool area with his two children and observed Mr. Flynn lying face down in the shallow end at the bottom of the pool. The guest jumped into the pool and attempted to remove the man as one of his children went to the front desk and advised the staff. Staff members immediately called 911 and assisted in removing the man from the pool and in providing CPR until members of the Yarmouth Police and Fire Departments arrived.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Yarmouth Police Department Detective Scott Lundegren at 508.775.0445 extension 2332 or the Massachusetts State Police Detectives at 508.394.2233
