As you will see in the following HN Video, a heavily damaged Ford Explorer had rolled over and was resting on its side and facing the wrong way in the right travel lane. The driver of the Explorer was evaluated in the back of a Sandwich FD Rescue ambulance. She then was released back out into the scene where a state trooper approached her and took her into custody. She was then placed inside a state police cruiser. At the time of this report, there was no further information as to why she was taken into custody.
The driver of a Toyota 4 Runner was not hurt and her vehicle had significantly less damage to its front end. She told HN that the other SUV had collided with her…
Westbound traffic on Route 6 was slowed and reduced one lane for a period of time as first responders and tow truck drivers worked the scene. Both vehicles needed to be towed from the highway.
The Massachusetts State Police is investigating the crash and HN will provide updates as soon as they become available.
Speaking with one veteran firefighter while examining the wreckage, we both agreed the driver of the Explorer was very lucky she and others were not seriously hurt.
