UPDATE – BPD MEDIA STATEMENT – 6/29/23:
At approximately 4:30 p.m. on Sunday June 25th 2023, Barnstable Police responded to the area of Main St. and High School Rd. in Hyannis for reported gun shots. Upon arrival, officers located a male that had been shot in the legs. The victim was treated and transported to Cape Cod Hospital and later flown to a Boston area hospital for further treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
During Sunday’s investigation, a damaged vehicle was located nearby that had fled the shooting scene and crashed into two uninvolved vehicles. The accident disabled the suspect vehicle and two suspects fled the area on foot. Investigators were able to secure key pieces of evidence, including video surveillance, that assisted them in
determining the identities of the suspects in the attempted murder of the victim.
A 16-year-old juvenile was arrested early Tuesday morning in Yarmouth for his role in the attempted murder. He is currently being held pending a dangerousness hearing in Barnstable District Juvenile Court on July 12th
.
After an extensive follow up investigation by Barnstable Police detectives and patrol officers, the second suspect, 20-year-old Chrystian Anderson, was arrested yesterday
afternoon by the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section (VFAS) Unit. INITIAL HN REPORT & VIDEO:
BARNSTABLE, Massachusetts – According to police sources, the following HN Video shows Chrystian Anderson being led into Barnstable District Court to be arraigned as a suspect in the shooting that happened in broad daylight in downtown Hyannis this past Sunday. The gunfire erupted around 4:30 p.m., and a 19-year-old Hyannis man was struck [] in both legs. Arriving first responders found the young man and multiple shell casings in the middle of Main Street between the First Baptist Church and the iconic Hyannis Inn (which was JFK’s campaign headquarters just over 60 years ago). At the time of the shooting, tourists and locals were out in numbers enjoying their Sunday, some pushing strollers, others with small kids in tow. It’s a good thing others were not hit! At least one stray bullet penetrated a hotel room at the Hyannis Inn, according to sources.
A second shooting suspect, a juvenile male, was arrested in the early morning hours this past Tuesday.
The 19-year-old shooting victim was first transported to Cape Cod Hospital and later airlifted to a Boston area trauma center this past Sunday. His injuries were said to be “non-life-threatening” as of Sunday evening, according to the Barnstable Police.
Sources tell HN that investigators have been pretty much working around the clock ever since Sunday’s shooting. By all accounts, they are exhausted but wanted the community to feel safe for the upcoming 4th of July weekend.
The Barnstable Police say will be working on an official media statement which should be released later on today. [Check back for additional details…]
