MOTORCYCLE OPERATOR CITED IN CRASH
On Monday, July 1, 2019 at 4:21PM, a man identified as Alan C. Pinho, age 36, of Bumps River Road in Centerville was operating a motorcycle eastbound on Route 28 and collided with a westbound Yarmouth Police Department cruiser operated by Yarmouth Police Department Patrol Officer Erica Wenberg near the town line of Barnstable.
The crash occurred in heavy summertime traffic and a small section of Route 28 was closed and traffic diverted.
The Yarmouth Police Department requested mutual aid and members of the Barnstable Police Department Crash Reconstruction Unit provided crash reconstruction services.
The initial investigation found several witness who reported that the motorcyclist was passing a number of eastbound vehicles on the right side shoulder area of Route 28 and collided with the police cruiser as it was attempting to turn left into a service station and the motorcyclist was attempting to turn right into the same service station parking lot.
Crash investigation revealed the 1998 Suzuki VZ800 collided with the front bumper of the 2017 Ford Police Interceptor SUV.
The motorcyclist was transported to nearby Cape Cod Hospital by members of the Yarmouth Fire Department suffering from minor injuries and was subsequently released later on in the evening at approximately 7:00PM.
The Police Officer was uninjured.
The motorcycle was damaged and towed from the scene.
The police cruiser had no damage.
Members of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit provided evidence collection services.
Traffic returned to normal conditions at approximately 7:00PM.
The operator of the motorcycle has been issued a Motor Vehicle Citation for Passing on the Right and Unsafe Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

NO SERIOUS INJURIES IN MOTORCYCLE CRASH
On Monday, July 1, 2019 at 4:21PM, a man operating a motorcycle eastbound on Route 28 collided with a westbound Yarmouth Police Department cruiser near the town line of Barnstable.
The crash occurred in heavy traffic and the small section of Route 28 was closed to allow for members of the Barnstable Police Department to conduct crash reconstruction services.
The initial investigation indicates the motorcyclist was passing a number of eastbound vehicles on the right side shoulder area of Route 28 and collided with the police cruiser as it was attempting to turn left into a service station.
The motorcyclist was transported to nearby Cape Cod Hospital by members of the Yarmouth Fire Department.
The motorcyclist is currently being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The Police Officer is uninjured.
Members of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit provided evidence collection services.
Traffic is expected to return to normal conditions by approximately 7:00PM.
