Busy weekend for cops: SCU locks up two after car stop… plus other stories…
Hyannis – Last night at 10:45 SCU units stopped a vehicle driving without headlights in the area of 358 Bearses Way.
Plainclothes officers observed narcotics in the vehicle. When an SCU officer tried to investigate, the 25-year-old passenger pulled away and tried to hide the drugs… a brief struggle ensued.
The passenger, Kieth Knight of Hyannis, was arrested for Possession of a Class B Substance and Resisting Arrest. He was also arrested on two outstanding warrants…
The driver, 19-year-old Daniel Thompson of East Falmouth, was also arrested for Operating on a Revoked Driver’s License. In addition, he was cited for operating without headlights…
An undisclosed quantity of illicit Suboxone was seized from the vehicle.
In other news:
Police responded to the cemetery on Elm Ave to the rear of the Federated Church this afternoon for a report of a man digging up tombstones…

Upon speaking with the reporting party and the suspect, police were satisfied (for the time being) that the homeless man was possibly trying to “fix” one of the headstones.
A middle-aged homeless male was advised and released from the scene…

Friday night, plainclothes SCU officers and a State Trooper responded to The House of Bud's on Bearses Way for a drunk causing a disturbance.

Officers quickly located the man in a nearby parking lot and after a brief scuffle were able to get him to cooperate and sit in the backseat of a cruiser while in custody...

Last night Officer Dave Downs responded to Kmart for a possible shoplifter who may have also been in possession of illicit drugs.

Store detectives believed she may have been in possession of a Class A Substance...
Colby Fish, age 25, was arrested and transported back to Barnstable Police Headquarters, where she was booked on Possession of a Class B Substance with Intent to Distribute.

Last night officers helped a woman who was reportedly found lying in front of the Federated Church... Hyannis Rescue was summoned to assist...

Last night several patrol cars responded to a motor vehicle accident near the rear entrance to the Cape Cod Mall...
There were young children in one of the vehicles.

Hyannis Rescue responded and evaluated those involved. There were no serious injuries.

Last night two Barnstable Police squad cars needed to respond to Davis Towing for someone being belligerent and giving one of the tow truck drivers a hard time.

Officers managed to maintain peace and order...

Earlier today, several Barnstable Officers responded to the rear of the Hyannis Post Office for two suspicious coolers placed near a dumpster.

A tan colored Lincoln reportedly fled the area....
One of the coolers was sealed with bright yellow tape which read “Examined by U.S. Customs.”

After several minutes carefully examining the scene, two Barnstable Patrolmen took a calculated risk and poked open the lid of the taped cooler with their collapsible metal “poking sticks.” (AKA police expandable "asp" batons...)

Nobody blew up and the suspicious rubbish was tossed in the dumpster.
This has only been a small fraction of the calls answered by local law enforcement this unusually mild December weekend...
