MISSION ACCOMPLISHED: Cape Cod has new 9/11 Memorial at YPD Headquarters… [Ceremony Video, UPDATED INFO]
UPDATE: VERY SPECIAL YPD THANK YOU THURSDAY!
Below are the remarks made by Yarmouth Police Lieutenant Michael A. Bryant during our special Town of Yarmouth 9/11 Memorial Park dedication ceremony held on 9/11/16 at sunset.
“Thank You Chief and thank all of you for coming here tonight to join with my fellow Committee members and volunteers that have made this evening possible.
Tonight is not a celebration but a part of a mission that was started over three years ago with the writing of a letter.
In that letter was a request to honor sacrifices made, we were honored by the New York City Port Authority to be a part of our Country’s history and on March 13th Two Thousand and Thirteen, Deputy Chief Xiarhos, Officer Al Sprague, Officer Nicholas Giammarco, and I travelled to New York City to pick up a piece of our country’s History.
Later we met as a community and pledged together that we would never forget that day and a committee of men, women, and children was formed and we began this journey together.
It was decided that this project had two phases, the 1st phase is behind you and our Police Memorial was re-designed by Tom and Shannon and moved to the front of our facility.
The 2nd phase of this project now stands completed behind me.
During this time we have had literally hundreds of donations received from area businesses and individuals and there are just too many to thank individually.
From the beginning our committee and number one fundraiser Marie LeBlanc Oz received donations from National Grid, Sam Walk and Kenny Vieira, John Sears and Sons, Billy Bohane, Paul Childes, Silver Cloud Towing, Eric Cooper Landscaping, Ford Diamond Electric, and the Skipper Restaurant who is here again tonight and have donated the food and drink.
I would also like to thank some of our most notable donators as without these individuals and businesses this memorial would not be standing here today.
First and foremost, Tom and Shannon the owners of Second Nature Gardenworks. You two have been the most valuable individuals since day one and without your hard work, dedication, and perseverance none of this would have been possible. You have inspired us all!
We would also like to thank, Rodrigo and Green Bird Landscaping who have spent the last two weeks here working day and night to complete this project. As well as donations received from Chuck Childs, Cape Cod Ready Mix, Drywall Masonry, A and E forms, Crosby Monuments, Ford Diamond Electric, Stonewood Products, The Green Spot Garden Center, McNamara Brothers Landscaping, RelCo Electric, Holmes and Sons Irrigation, and the Yarmouth Police Relief Association who have all donated the supplies and materials needed for the construction to be completed.
We have been raising funds since day one and are still in need of some to meet our goal and our Yarmouth Police 9/11 Memorial GoFundMe page is still waiting for your donations big or small.
Lastly we received sizable financial donations from The Chamberlain Foundation, Rob and Jean Chamberlain, The Patriots Square Merchant’s Association, Mike and Laurie Walsh, and the Jerome Manning family.
Special thanks to Dr. Joan Spiegel who kick started our project, without your financial generosity this would not have happened, thank you Joan.
In closing, 15 years ago today was one of the worst days in our Country’s history, we also saw on that day some of the bravest acts ever in our Country’s history. We pledged then that we would never forget both the terror and the heroism that occurred.
Here today, on these grounds, our community is honoring that pledge that we would never forget the sacrifice made by those Americans.
Thank you to all that have helped make today possible.”
Initial HN coverage:
YARMOUTH – On the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, a large crowd gathered outside of Yarmouth Police Headquarters for a ceremony unveiling a brand new memorial where visitors of all ages can go for reflection, comfort, and peace.
Members of the Yarmouth Police, local volunteers, and dedicated benefactors, put a tremendous amount of effort into the project which was entirely funded on money raised from the generosity of private donors…
As Chief Frank Frederickson pointed out, most of today’s school age children were not alive at the time of the attacks. The memorial will serve as an important reminder and living classroom for people of all ages, especially those who had not yet been born.
