BREWSTER – The undercover game of cat and mouse began two months ago and ended last evening in a quiet Brewster neighborhood near the Harwich town line after police finally cornered their “mouse” who initially failed to stop for their flashing blue lights.
At about 7:54PM last evening, Cape Cod Drug Task Force agents were keeping an eye on the suspect in the North Street area of Hyannis. Yarmouth Police Detectives were also zeroing in, setting a trap just over the town line in their town.
As undercover narcotic agents followed the suspect east on Main Street in Hyannis, Yarmouth Police Officers were waiting to pounce just a short distance down the road…
… that’s when the cagey suspect made a left turn on Yarmouth Road and began driving north toward the Mid-Cape Highway, thus foiling detectives’ plan A.
Detectives followed their target east on Route 6 through Yarmouth, then Dennis, eventually turning down side streets through parts of Harwich before finally making the decision to initiate a traffic stop when the suspect turned into his neighborhood on the Brewster/Harwich town line; a nighborhood from which their was no other way out…
The suspect initially did not stop for officers when they activated their flashing blue lights.
HN happened to be nearby when police finally stopped the suspect near his residence in the closed-off neighborhood from whence there could be no escape.
Dean Viprino, age 43, of Brewster, had been the subject of a two-month-long investigation into heroin dealing in the Mid-Cape area; he now found himself in handcuffs.
Sandwich K-9 “Koda” began sniffing Viprino and the general scene, locating a bag of heroin (over 10 grams) which was attributed the suspect. Koda also searched the route Viprino had allegedly traveled while failing to stop for police.
Police also searched Viprino’s residence, discovering a quantity of Suboxone and Hydromorphone.
Viprino was charged with Possession of a Class A Substance with Intent to Distribute (Subsequent Offense – Heroin), Possession of a Class B Substance (Subsequent Offense – Suboxone), Possession of a Class B Substance (Subsequent Offense – Hydromorphone), Failure to Stop for Police, and Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
He was scheduled to be arraigned in Orleans District Court today, this Wednesday (12/30/2015).
