COMMERCIAL B&E: Cleaning lady witnessed legs inside Hytown weight...

HYANNIS – At about 10:45PM last evening, Barnstable prowl cars charged towards the Festival Plaza on Route 132 after a cleaning lady spied someone’s legs gingerly walking about inside the Jenny Craig weight loss center – she was reporting for work and there shouldn’t have been anyone inside that time of day!

She could only see the man’s legs below the store’s blinds, but in an effort to expose the scoundrel, she immediately alerted police and they responded in kind, quickly covering the front and back of the building in hopes of capturing their suspect with his hands in the proverbial cookie jar (so to speak) …

… but no such luck! The savvy culprit slipped out the back and nimbly sped away, narrowly escaping the scene by a mere whisker – hastily, like a frightened mouse, not wanting to be seen – but alas, it was a thinly veiled escape, with officers still able to quickly obtain a basic witness description of the getaway vehicle – “a small blue sedan” – and the burglar behind the wheel – “a white male,” along with a second miscreant also inside the vehicle – cops at least had something to go on!

Back inside the weight loss center, officers radioed that someone had tore through a wall during the breaking and entering. The fire department was called because the crime may have also somehow involved a fire sprinkler room. The building needed to be searched while officers secured the crime scene … and a Sheriff’s Department crime scene investigator was also called in…

It’s uncertain whether or not anyone made out like fat cats after last evening’s attempted Jenny Craig heist; it’s an active investigation and it’s hard to imagine what in the world the burglars were after to begin with.
