COPS: Drunk driver recklessly crashing into landscape boulders turned out to be wanted in Florida too…
The Barnstable Police arrested a fugitive from justice after he allegedly drove his vehicle in erratic fashion through the parking lot of the Cape Cod Mall on Wednesday afternoon.
FROM THE BARNSTABLE POLICE DEPARTMENT: At about 1:45 pm officers were called to the parking lot of the Cape Cod Mall near the former Sears building for what witnesses described as an erratic driver striking landscape boulders and operating recklessly. Officer John O’Hare arrived within seconds and observed the suspect operating a brown 2005 Dodge Caravan with Florida license plates. As O’Hare attempted to stop the vehicle, he observed the mini-van leave the marked lane of travel and drive up onto a channelized island before coming to a stop. The operator was identified as 49-year-old Darin Selby of Sandwich. Officer O’Hare’s investigation culminated in the arrest of Selby on charges of OUI-Liquor (3rd Offense), Operating to Endanger, Operating After License Suspension, and Operating with an Open Alcohol Container. During the booking process, police discovered Selby was a Fugitive from Justice out of Naples Florida on charges relating to a 3rd conviction for Petit Theft.
Two witnesses told O’Hare they saw Selby driving erratically on the other side of the mall and attempted to communicate with him to see if he was alright. They followed Selby until Officer O’Hare located and stopped him.
Selby was held at the Barnstable Police Station pending an appearance in Barnstable District Court on 2/28/19
