MAN ACCUSED OF DRIVING INTO SANDWICH BANK REPORTEDLY WOULD NOT EXIT BUILDING UNLESS C.I.A. NOTIFIED
SANDWICH, MASSACHUSETTS – According to a report filed by Patrolman Gregory Jaroszuk of the Sandwich Police Department, the man accused of intentionally driving his vehicle into TD Bank North Monday morning would not exit the bank until the “CIA” was notified.
Early Monday morning – January 13, 2025 – at around 3:20 a.m., Patrolman Jaroszuk was dispatched to 119 Route 6A, TD Bank North after a vehicle reportedly crashed into the building. TD Bank security reportedly notified police that a male had crashed his car into the bank at 3:14 a.m. and at 3:19 a.m. he broke through the front doors to use the phone to call police.
Patrolman Jaroszuk’s report continues as follows:
“I arrived and observed a red colored sedan bearing MA Reg PH9150 crashed into the front doors of the bank. Inside the building behind the counter was a male that became known to me as Kevin Coelho. I asked Kevin if he was injured and if anyone else was with him. Kevin replied that he would like to be looked at in a very calm manner by the fire department. I radioed dispatch that I was requesting an ambulance. No other parties were in the vehicle.
I asked Kevin what occurred. Kevin explained that he was pulling up to use the ATM. His front tire hit the curb and he stated that the vehicle took off and hit the building. I asked how he got into the building and he explained that he climbed over the front of his vehicle. H32 Sgt. Condon arrived on scene and requested the Sandwich building inspector, CIO and tow company. Sandwich Fire/ Rescue arrived a short time later. I asked Kevin to exit the building. He would not until we notified the CIA and told them that he had important information to tell them. Kevin refused to answer [] further questions until the CIA was notified.
CIO Kester arrived on scene. Kester took photos from the front of the building and sides. While Kester was taking photographs [Sandwich Fire/ Rescue] advised us that the rear of the building also had damage. I went around the rear of the building and observed 3 different locations that were crashed into. Two windows were crashed into and then he crashed into the drive- up window. CIO Kester also photographed this area.
TD Bank security sent Sgt. Condon video footage of the events. Kevin first crashes into the rear of the building 3 times. He then drove through the front doors of the building. He then got out of his vehicle[,] climbed over the front of his car and tried to enter the bank. The interior door was locked. Kevin proceeded to pull the door with force causing it to shatter. He then entered the bank and pressed the silent alarm and called 911.
Kevin would still not exit the building until he spoke with the CIA. It was determined that Sandwich Fire/ Rescue would break a side window to gain access. We entered the bank and placed Kevin in handcuffs/ double locked…”
Kevin Coelho, 38, of Fall River was advised of his rights and transported back to the Sandwich Police Department for booking. Coelho was charged with Breaking & Entering into a Depository, and 3 counts of Vandalizing Property. He was held in custody on $25,000 cash bail pending his arraignment later Monday morning.
During Coelho’s arraignment at Barnstable District Court Monday morning, a plea of Not Guilty was entered on all charges. Specific Bail and/or conditions of release were unavailable at the time of this report. Although, according to court docs, Judge Edward Lynch did order Coelho to stay away from TD Bank North on Route 6A in Sandwich… but again, at the time of this report, it remains unclear whether he was actually bailed out or not.
The vehicle he was driving reportedly had revoked insurance.
Coelho reportedly had no warrants for his arrest… and there was no criminal history or entries on his adult record mentioned in Patrolman Jaroszuk’s report. Coelho reportedly has an active License to Carry Firearms out of Fall River. The Fall River Police Department has reportedly been notified regarding the recent allegations.
* The details contained in the above report are based on police radio transmissions, a SPD media statement and documents filed in Barnstable District Court. The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
