COPS: Falmouth teen hospitalized after school shooting threat… referenced Pulse Nightclub, access to firearms, explosive…
FALMOUTH – Early Saturday morning, Falmouth Police received a tip on a school shooting threat, according to a FPD press statement.
The threat ended with references to “suicide by cop.” It also included references to the Pulse Nightclub Shooting in Orlando, FL.
A juvenile suspect reportedly mentioned having access to multiple firearms and an explosive device.
Falmouth Officers acted immediately, locating the 17-year-old at his residence in East Falmouth where they found an Airsoft Replica Pistol and several knives.
A search of the home also revealed one shotgun and two rifles, however all were properly secured.
Due to the circumstances, the young man was transported to Falmouth Hospital for a mental health evaluation.
He has since been committed to a mental health facility by the Falmouth District Court.
None of the threats were specific to a particular school, nonetheless all area schools were notified of the threat.
The Falmouth Police Department, along with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are conducting an ongoing investigation.
